Two vessels from Marine Rescue Port Stephens, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a rubber duckie from NSW Surf Life Saving went to the assistance of seven people whose boat sank at the Fingal Light in Port Stephens this afternoon.

The vessel ran into difficulties and struck rocks before sinking. The seven passengers and two dogs reached the relative safety of the land below the lighthouse and have now been lifted off by Westpac Helicopter and transported to Fingal Beach.

All passengers were wearing lifejackets and no injuries have been reported.
